"Sherpa starts a journey. For you, it's off the beaten path to adventure and new experiences. For the children of Nepal, it's to opportunity and a brighter future."

Sherpa Adventure Gear is a brand known for its high-quality textiles and outdoor gear, but they are doing far more than just selling products to consumers. Sherpa Adventure Gear is a small brand committed to making a big impact.

Sherpa Adventure Gear

Sherpa Adventure Gear was founded as a living memorial to the Sherpas of Mt. Everest and was inspired by Nepal's spiritual lifestyle and rich culture. Sherpa Adventure Gear seeks to honor the unsung heroes of Everest by creating gear that earns the praise of the world's toughest high-altitude climbers, the Sherpas themselves.

Many children in Nepal don't have access to primary education growing up, and Sherpa Adventure Gear is passionate about changing that. Sherpa believes that every single child has a right to education. The whole world benefits when we all have access to knowledge and skills to succeed.

Founder

In 2003, Tashi Sherpa founded Sherpa Adventure Gear. Tashi Sherpa and his family founded the Seattle-based company to pay tribute to the Sherpa guides on Mount Everest and help communities in Nepal.

Although Tashi and his family had already owned an import clothing business, Sherpa Adventure Gear was inspired by chance. In May of 2003, Tashi was walking down the streets of Manhattan, and a magazine caught his eye. This magazine commemorated the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest, and a shockingly familiar face was on the cover. The face belonged to his uncle, one of the original Sherpas on Sir Edmund Hilary's celebrated 1953 expedition.

As Tashi was reading the story of many unnamed Sherpa heroes living in poverty like his uncle, he felt compelled to share the story with a larger audience. It was then that Tashi set out to create Sherpa Adventure Gear. He was not a climber, so he asked the best high-altitude climbers in the world, Sherpas, to test his products.

The Sherpa Heart in Action

Every Garment Tells a Story

Sherpa Adventure Gear creates, develops, and manufactures over 85% of its products in Nepal. Because of this, they provide thousands of jobs for Nepalese people. Nearly 500 people are employed at the Nepal production center, and over 1,000 local women hand-knit caps and sweaters, all while training others in their community to do the same and create more jobs in the future.

From Nepal, With Love

Many Sherpa products are handcrafted in Nepal and support local women's co-ops by providing meaningful employment and income. The brand is inspired by the colors and patterns of the Himalayas and seeks to blend both design and tradition to bring Sherpa heritage to life. Small touches of Himalayan heritage are woven into every garment, such as Prayer Flag zipper pulls and print patterns based on ancient carvings. Every garment from Sherpa is finished with an Endless Knot, a symbol representing the unity of thought and action, words and deeds, wisdom and compassion.

Sustainability

The brand is conscious about how materials are produced and are constantly working to reduce their impact on the planet. Sherpa seeks to provide social and economic stability to the people of Nepal by offering steady employment, quality working conditions, and education opportunities for future generations.

Funding Schools in Nepal

Sherpa Adventure Gear is on a mission to educate children in Nepal and strengthen the lives of Nepalese families. For every item sold, the brand funds a day of school for a child in Nepal through the Paldorje Education Fund. Sherpa Adventure Gear aims to provide 10 million school days by 2030. When you wear Sherpa, you are helping a child access education and creating opportunities for a new generation.
