Cape Breton experiences four seasons and summers can be short, but warm, with cool breezes. This makes outdoor activities comfortable. For the cyclist, The Cabot Trail is 285 miles of challenging terrain that follows the coastline, drawing one up into the mountains where the elevations are high and can be steep. There are many look offs that afford the visitor memorable, spectacular views. Cyclists will be tested by the long, fast, steep descents down three mountains, which are not for the faint of heart. For those who enjoy hiking, the Highlands National Park has much to offer. You can explore many wooded trails where wildlife, such as moose, can be observed close at hand. Some trails offer pools of water, which are great for an afternoon of salmon fishing.
Accommodations are readily at hand and you can stay at several affordable motels and B&Bs where you’ll be treated to some of the best seafood and cuisine in Canada. This makes travel along the Cabot Trail easy and a wonderful adventure.
