"Smokeless" campfire

One of the BioLite FirePit's most loved features is its ability to produce very little smoke. It is equipped with mesh walls that help to keep out weather and wind, plus a simple aeration system that helps keep your fire alive and under control, thanks to piping beneath the fuel rack. With the patented airflow technology- air is sent up to the top of the fire pit, creating a secondary burn that helps burn away the smoke that would typically make it into the air. 51 air jets inject the fire with oxygen along with key locations; this creates a more uniform temperature and mixing of gases inside the fire to improve combustion and reduce smoke.

Convenience

The BioLite FirePit is only 27 inches long, 13 inches wide, and around 20 pounds, but can burn up to 4 large logs at a time. Its size makes it convenient, light, and portable, but it can still support first-rate fire. The easy folding legs combined with the BioLite Carry Bag (not included) help easily transport your fire pit to any outdoor space.

The fire pit's intensity is easily controlled by the attached fan. The battery-controlled fan has four modes. Modes 2 and 3 create a roaring flame, mode 4 gives a burst to help reignite a dying flame, and mode 1 keeps a consistent slow burn. “X-Ray Mesh” is what BioLite calls the grates on the grills that allow you to see the fire from almost all angles, making for not just better lighting to see your friends and family around the fire, but also better heat distribution so that everyone can feel the warmth!

Love to cook? You're in luck! The BioLite FirePit quickly and easily goes from fire pit to skillet to hibachi-style grill without any excessive attachments. BioLite comes with a removable grill grate included, and the fire pit can be easily transitioned for your cooking wants and needs. BioLite works well with charcoal or wood, but you can even use cherry or hickory to add smokiness to your food. Not to mention, the cooking grate makes for an incredible backyard hibachi-style grilling experience!

Battery and Electronics

In 2021, the BioLite FirePit was updated to improve the battery life by about 20%. Now, the fan can control the fire for up to 30 hours on a low setting, 14 hours on medium, or 7 hours on high. It can run for 30 hours on a single charge and easily detaches to recharge via USB. This makes for a decently long burning fire pit. The unit runs off of a 10,400 mAh battery.

You can control the fan speed and flame intensity of the BioLite FirePit remotely by using the Bluetooth integration or the free BioLite Energy App for Android 4.3+ and iOS 10.0+ devices. The BioLite app lets you connect directly to your fire pit to control the heat and intensity of wood-burning- all from your phone.

The fire pit also comes equipped with port charging for electronics. It features USB outputs and micro-USB ports. You can charge your phone or tablet directly from the fire pit!

Things to Consider

One of the biggest drawbacks noted by consumers is that with continued use, rust will form on the outside grate of the fire pit. The finish of the mesh grill grate is not thickly plated and it may burn off quickly. However, this is purely cosmetic and does not detract from the quality of the grill.

In addition to the cosmetic concern, it is important to know that the BioLite FirePit is only completely smokeless when the battery has full power. This can be easily remedied by ensuring that the battery life stays high and that your battery pack is being recharged after each use. You can also purchase a solar charger to charge your battery organically! But remember, the solar panel has to be in near-perfect condition to get a full charge in a timely manner. It must be out of the way of clouds and trees, ideally in direct sunlight. But, if placed in areas with moving clouds or in areas of indirect sunlight, the solar-powered charger may not be an efficient way to generate power.

It is also of note that you can only fit about 2-4 16” standard firewood logs into the chamber before it’s at full capacity. It won't create a huge fire, but it is sufficient for smaller groups or a single-family.

As with all battery-operated machinery, over time, the battery may lose its ability to hold a charge, and the fans moving parts could wear out down the line. But most consumers find the fire pit to be extremely high quality, durable and made to last.
